Injectables

BOTOX® Cosmetic

Signs of aging in the face, such as wrinkles, fine lines, and crow's feet, can be diminished with BOTOX® Cosmetic here at our San Antonio practice. BOTOX® Cosmetic is derived from a safe, highly diluted form of botulinum toxin type A, and has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Wrinkles and lines are caused by muscles contracting in the face. The purified protein that makes up BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected directly into the treatment areas to temporarily paralyze these muscles, stopping them from contracting to smooth out lines and wrinkles. BOTOX® injections are especially effective at reducing frown lines between the eyes and wrinkles along the forehead. The entire procedure typically takes 15 to 30 minutes to complete. Results generally last anywhere from three to six months, but with occasional touch-up treatments, the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic can be maintained for years. Patients should be able to see the full aesthetic benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic within one to three days of treatment.

Restylane®

Restylane® is an innovative injectable filler that can add volume to the lips and reduce the visible effects of aging. Wrinkles and fine lines in many facial areas, including the chin, forehead, cheeks, and around the mouth, can be smoothed out for a more youthful appearance. Restylane® can also be used for lip enhancement by plumping up the lips to provide a more sensual aesthetic that can have a positive affect on the entire look of the face. Made from a substance that occurs naturally in the human body, Restylane® treatments require no allergy testing. The entire procedure generally lasts about 30 minutes, and patients can resume normal daily routines immediately. Results from Restylane® are typically long-lasting, from six months to a year, and follow-up treatments can maintain results for an extended period of time.

Restylane® can be a wonderful add-on to other cosmetic procedures, such as liposuction, rhinoplasty, or brow lift to complete a full aesthetic makeover.

Radiesse®

Radiesse® is a popular dermal filler designed to reduce the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles around the mouth and nose. It can also add volume and new contour to the lips, giving them a fuller, more youthful appearance. While it is commonly used to reduce signs of aging, Radiesse® is also effective at helping HIV patients suffering from facial lipoatrophy, or hollowness of the cheeks. Radiesse® stimulates the growth of natural collagen, causing new tissue to develop which helps results last for long periods of time, even up to two years. The treatment typically takes only 15 minutes to perform, and since Radiesse® is composed of a natural human substance (calcium hydroxylapatite), no allergy testing is necessary.

JUVEDERM™

Similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic and Restylane, JUVEDERM™ is one of the newest injectable dermal fillers designed to add fullness and volume to facial features and fill in fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment is known for causing little discomfort during injection, as well as having long-lasting results. Made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the human body, JUVEDERM™ requires no allergy testing. JUVEDERM™ is injected directly into the treatment areas, working to replenish chemicals under the skin that will smooth out lines in the face. It is also an effective treatment for lip augmentation. Results generally last six to nine months, and in many cases even longer. Patients typically see aesthetic improvement immediately after the procedure, and results continue to improve over the next few days. Pregnant women, those who are breastfeeding, and patients with weakened immune systems are advised not to undergo treatment with JUVEDERM™ however, there are many alternatives that can be just as effective. Dr. Barone will discuss all of your options with you at your initial consultation.

Sculptura® Aesthetic

As individuals age, the skin’s natural collagen diminishes, causing wrinkles to appear on the face. While there are a number of quick fixes to temporarily smooth out wrinkles, Sculptura® provides gradual improvement and the longest lasting results. The injectable solution is made of poly-L-lactic acid, which restores natural collagen below the surface of the skin, thus evening out wrinkles for a healthier, more youthful appearance. This treatment is most commonly used to correct wrinkles that form around the mouth – nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and chin wrinkles. Results are noticeable over time, are very natural looking, and can last as long as two years. Dr. Barone recommends three treatments over the course of several months for optimal results.

ArteFill®

Also known as Artecoll®, ArteFill® is a dermal filler designed specifically to reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds, which are deep lines that run from the nose to the corner of the mouth. ArteFill® is composed of a substance derived from bovine collagen, so an allergy test will be required before the procedure. The solution not only fills in wrinkles, it stimulates production of natural collagen, which helps maintain results for a longer period of time, possibly up to five years or more in some patients. ArteFill® treatments typically last from 15 to 30 minutes, and results are apparent immediately after treatment.

Fat Injections (Liposculpture)

Fat injections, medically referred to as liposculpture, are extremely effective treatments to augment the lips, as well as fill in facial lines and wrinkles. The procedure involves taking fat cells from one area of your body and injecting them into the lips or other facial areas exhibiting signs of age. Since the substance is from your own body, there is no possibility of allergic reaction. Fat injections are also known to yield extremely long-lasting results, in some cases for years, and occasional touch-up sessions can keep the positive results of fat injections going for many more.

Implants

Body implant procedures are fast-growing in popularity and offer a way to significantly enhance body contours in a variety of areas. Plastic surgery with implants can add volume and proportion to the bustline, provide balance to facial features, and offer you an improved aesthetic appearance. Some of the implant procedures we offer at our practice in San Antonio include:

Chin Implants

Patients who have prominent noses, a recessed chin, or both can have balance restored to the face with chin implants. Made from a durable silicone elastomer material, the implant is placed through a discreet incision made through the inside of the mouth or underneath the chin. Positioned in front of the jawbone, the implant serves to balance and harmonize facial features and improve overall facial contour. The entire procedure typically takes about one hour to complete. A chin implant procedure can be combined with rhinoplasty to provide a new and proportionate appearance to the face.

Cheek Implants

Lack of definition in the cheeks can be improved with cheek implants. Dr. Constance Barone can augment the cheeks and add new contours to the face with the insertion of cheek implants made of strong silicone elastomer. The procedure involves small incisions made in the lower eyelids, or inside the mouth. Dr. Barone will create pockets in the cheek tissue to accommodate the implant. Once the implants are placed, patients who have had lifelong facial narrowness, and those who have lost cheek contour with age, will see a restored balance and proportion to the face that compliments other facial features.

Cheek implants can be used in combination with other cosmetic procedures, such as eyelid surgery and facelift, for a more complete aesthetic makeover.

Breast Implants

Breast augmentation with implants is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in the world. Breast implants add volume and fullness to the bustline, making breasts appear more youthful and "perky." There are many different types, shapes, and sizes of implants, and a number of different ways to perform the procedure.
