Gynecomastia San Antonio
Male breast reduction, or gynecomastia surgery, can be an excellent surgical treatment for men uncomfortable with the look of their chests. During this procedure, Dr. Constance Barone uses her artistic eye and surgical precision to create smoother, flatter chests for her male patients. Because of weight gain or natural genetics, the male body can accumulate fatty deposits above the pectoral muscles. These fat deposits can be difficult to lose, even with diet and exercise.
Dr. Barone offers gynecomastia surgery in San Antonio at her state-of-the-art plastic surgery center to help men suffering from this condition. During this surgery, Dr. Barone removes fat with liposuction or surgical tissue removal, creating a flattened, more masculine chest shape.

How is a Gynecomastia Performed?
Dr. Barone artfully adjusts her surgical technique to address each man's unique body shape and goals. Gynecomastia surgery may involve simple liposuction alone, or may also include the removal of excess skin tissue.
Liposuction for Gynecomastia
During a gynecomastia liposuction surgery, Dr. Barone uses ultrasound-assisted liposuction, or UAL. This type of liposuction uses a cannula, or suction wand, to remove fatty deposits from the pectoral area. UAL is unique because it uses ultrasound waves to liquefy fibrous fat tissues. This type of liposuction is very effective for providing smooth, natural-looking results.
Once the fat tissue has been liquefied, Dr. Barone gently suctions it out, creating a smoother, flatter chest area. Following gynecomastia liposuction, men can return to normal physical activities the next day. Side effects can include slight soreness and bruising, and some drainage during the first night following surgery. This is an excellent procedure for men with small to medium amounts of fat deposits in the breast area who want a procedure with fast recovery, minimal to no scarring, and great results.
Tissue Removal for Gynecomastia
If a patient has excess skin that contributes to their undesirable pectoral contours, Dr. Barone can surgically remove this tissue. Often performed in conjunction with liposuction, Dr. Barone uses small incisions for this procedure and is usually able to hide scars in the darkly colored skin of the areola.
Patients who undergo surgical tissue removal have a longer period of recovery than those who undergo liposuction alone. Patients will be required to wear a vest for a day following surgery, and are asked to refrain from vigorous activities for two weeks. During a follow-up appointment, Dr. Barone will make sure that the patient is healing properly, and determine when regular exercise and other activities can resume.
The Awake Technique
For both liposuction and tissue, Dr. Barone uses the awake technique. Rather than using general anesthesia or IV sedation, patients are given a local anesthetic and are kept awake during their treatments. Patients will feel no pain, and can recover in our offices much faster than with IV sedation.
