Patients considering liposuction can find expert treatment at our state-of-the-art cosmetic surgery practice. Dr. Constance Barone utilizes a variety of liposuction techniques at our San Antonio practice, all designed to eliminate excess fat in virtually any area of the body. This proven cosmetic procedure is designed to address fat that simply won't go away, even with a steady diet and regular exercise.
Liposuction, medically referred to as lipoplasty or suction lipectomy, has been an effective method of removing localized deposits of stubborn fat for decades. Over the years, new liposuction techniques have been developed, making the procedure safer and more effective.
Liposuction can also be a wonderful addition to other plastic surgery procedures, such as facelift, breast augmentation, or tummy tuck, for those patients who wish to achieve more comprehensive body rejuvenation.
Types of Liposuction
There are several types of liposuction surgery, usually grouped by the area of the body on which they are performed and the technique they use to remove. Traditional, fluid injection, tumescent, super-wet, ultrasound-assisted, and custom acoustic are methods by which liposuction is performed. The procedure can reduce fat buildup in the arms, legs, face, neck, chin, abdomen, flanks, buttocks, and back.
The Advanced CAL System
Dr. Barone uses the custom acoustic liposuction (CAL) system for her patients because it effectively removes fat deposits while minimally impacting surrounding tissues. Also known as the Nutational Infrasonic Liposculpture (NIL) system, this method allows patients to be involved in their treatment, feel less pain and soreness during recovery, and return to normal physical activities faster. CAL liposuction uses low-frequency acoustic infrasonic vibrations to liquefy fat tissues before they are removed using a small probe instrument. This is different than traditional liposuction, in which tissues are physically broken apart using a wand before being extracted from the body.
Risks, Side Effects & Recovery
Although rare, complications from liposuction do occur from time to time. Risks increase with the number of areas being treated, or if the size of the target area is large. Dr. Constance Barone is a highly trained plastic surgeon who will work with you to minimize any risk of complications.
Some pain, swelling, bruising, and fluid drainage from the incisions are to be expected after liposuction. Patients may also experience some bleeding and temporary numbness. Pain and discomfort can typically be alleviated with medication. Full recovery can take up to six weeks, depending on the technique used and the size of the area treated. It may also take several weeks for the full results of liposuction to become apparent. Patients are typically able to resume normal, daily activities about a week after the procedure. Strenuous activities should be avoided for about a month as your body continues to heal. Patients who experience heavy bleeding, increased pain, or other unusual symptoms during recovery should contact Dr. Barone.
The Cost of Liposuction
Liposuction is one of few plastic surgery procedures that can be applied to many different areas of the body. Because liposuction application is so versatile, no two procedures cost the same. Different variables factor into final liposuction cost, including the quality of the plastic surgeon, her staff, her facility, the area of the body being treated, and the type of anesthesia used. After consulting with Dr. Barone, you will better understand these factors.
Liposuction is typically less expensive in areas as of the body such as the arms. Larger areas like the abdomen cost more, because more fat is typically removed. Liposuction can also be used to treat the legs, face, neck, chin, abdomen, flanks, buttocks, arms, and back. Many patients choose to have liposuction on several areas of their bodies simultaneously, consolidating healing time and creating a more noticeable body transformation. Cost typically increases with the amount of fat removed and the number of areas treated.
Our Liposuction Method
Dr. Barone specializes in awake liposuction, which is performed using only local anesthesia. During this procedure, patients stay awake during their surgeries, but feel little or no pain. Awake liposuction is less expensive than IV sedation or general sedation in most cases, and requires a shorter in-office recovery period.
Investing in Yourself
it is important to consider the way in which this treatment improves your physical appearance and boosts your confidence. Our patients have reported stunning results and a renewed pride in their looks after liposuction.
At Dr. Barone's offices, we are well aware that plastic surgery is an investment. To help patients afford treatments, Dr. Barone is happy to accept cash, credit, and check payments. We also offer in-office financing for qualified candidates. Our office also provides CareCredit® financing. CareCredit® can cover up to $25,000 worth of plastic surgery, creating manageable payments for patients who qualify.
If you are considering a liposuction procedure, the local (or awake) Custom Acoustic Liposuction system utilized at our Austin and San Antonio plastic surgery centers is proven and reliable, and allows for the removal of body fat with minimal intrusion on surrounding tissues and muscles. The C.A.L. system - also known as the Nutational Infrasonic Liposculpture (N.I.L) system - can be used with local or regional anesthetic. The benefits of the C.A.L. is why Dr. Constance Barone is pleased to offer this innovative type of liposuction at our San Antonio practice.
A Safe & Effective Technique
The N.I.L. system from Euromi™ is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for fat removal, fat harvesting, and body sculpting, and was originally designed to improve patient safety and comfort while reducing the physical strain typically placed on surgeons by traditional liposuction systems. The awake liposuction system allows for more effective and more comfortable liposculpture and liposuction.
Utilizing low frequency acoustic infrasonic vibration, the local or awake Custom Acoustic Liposuction system can remove large amounts of body fat in a manner that has a minimal impact on surrounding tissues; this minimally invasive technique allows the patient to stay awake during his or her procedure and results in smooth body contours and rapid recovery. The N.I.L. is such an effective tool, in fact, that the fat removed can be used for transfers, such as in an injection procedure. Quite simply, the N.I.L. system is a revolution in cosmetic body sculpting technology!
