About the Procedure
Dr. Barone adjusts the thigh lift, or thighplasty, procedure according to each patient's unique needs. Using incisions along the inner, upper, or lower thighs, Dr. Barone surgically removes excess skin and fat, pulling the tissues into a tighter, sleeker alignment. She then carefully sutures closed the incisions to minimize the appearance of scars.
Some thighplasty patients will need liposuction surgery in addition to the surgical removal of skin and fat. With liposuction, Dr. Barone can eliminate stubborn fat deposits. Patients with excess skin and fatty tissue are great candidates for liposuction and surgical tissue removal. Thighplasty surgery can be performed under sedation, or as an "awake" treatment, in which Dr. Barone uses local anesthesia to numb the surgical site while patients remain awake.
The Recovery Period
After your procedure, you will need to rest for a week to 10 days before you are able to resume moderate physical activity. It is recommended that patients plan for a loved one to assist them in moving around the house while they heal.
In addition to bandaging your sutures, Dr. Barone will provide you with compression garments to wear following surgery. You will need to wear your compression garments for several days to minimize swelling. Because of its intensive nature, you can expect bruising and swelling following surgery that may last several weeks. Dr. Barone may also provide you small drainage tubes for excess fluids and blood. During a follow-up appointment, Dr. Barone will remove the drainage tubes and your stitches, and ensure that your thighplasty is healing properly.
